How to do it
- 1
Set the bench to about 30°. Sit back with a dumbbell resting on each thigh.
- 2
Lie back and kick the dumbbells up to your shoulders, one knee at a time.
- 3
Press them up over your upper chest until your arms are straight.
- 4
Lower them slowly until they sit just outside your chest, with a deep stretch.
- 5
Press back up, bringing the dumbbells close together at the top.
What to think about
- “Chest up to the ceiling”
- “Forearms vertical”
- “Slow on the way down”
Common mistakes
- Setting the bench too steep, which turns it into a shoulder press
- Cutting the range short
- Clashing the dumbbells at the top
